Deliveries of Russian wheat to Kyrgyzstan in the first half of the year increased almost fivefold, as a result, Russia overtook Kazakhstan in the export of this type of grain to the republic, according to data from the Kyrgyz statistical service, which it studied RIA Novosti.
In January-June, Kyrgyzstan imported $47.1 million worth of wheat from Russia (for 220.2 thousand tons), which is 4.8 times more than in the first half of last year.
As a result, Russia became the main supplier of wheat to Kyrgyzstan, displacing Kazakhstan from the first line, which reduced its supplies to the republic by half, to $14.5 million (64.3 thousand tons). In addition, very small supplies of wheat came into the country from Canada.
In addition, Kyrgyzstan sharply increased imports of Russian barley: total supplies in January-June increased to $2.98 million (15.2 thousand tons) from $9.8 thousand (50 tons) a year earlier. The Kyrgyz also purchased this crop from the Kazakhs for $3.3 million (16.8 thousand tons).
As for other types of grains, Kyrgyzstan imported rice from Russia for $562 thousand (+5%), corn - for $55 thousand (+5%), oats - for $44 thousand (an increase of 3.1 times), as well as buckwheat and other cereals - for $28.3 thousand (-62%).
