Wheat exports from Russia in the 2025/26 agricultural year (July-June) could amount to 44 million tons, Interfax reports with reference to the head of the Rusagrotrans analytical center Igor Pavensky. Last agricultural year, exports amounted to 42.1 million tons, he recalled.
Barley exports are estimated at 5.3 million tons (4.7 million tons), corn - at 3.8 million tons (3.2 million tons). Total exports of grains and legumes are forecast at 57.8 million tons compared to 53.4 million tons the previous season.
As Pavensky stated, the total harvest of grain and leguminous crops in the Russian Federation could reach 138.4 million tons, including 88.5-90 million tons of wheat.
“In Siberia, the wheat harvest is planned to be higher, despite the reduction in area. The harvest in the Stavropol Territory was harvested at a record level. In addition, it is predicted that in the center and on the Volga the harvest will reach record levels in 2022-2023. This completely offsets the drop of 3.25 million tons in the Southern Federal District,” Pavensky said.
Speaking about the development of rail grain transportation, he said that in July-November, grain exports by rail were close to a record level - 10.3 million tons. The main cargo was wheat, which accounted for 89%. To date, about half of the railway export potential has been exported.
After a weak start in July-August, record monthly volumes of grain have been shipped for export over the past three months, Pavensky noted. The key factor was the change in the geography of transportation: the role of the regions of Central Russia, the Volga region and Siberia increased, while the share of the southern regions decreased.
It is predicted that during the entire 2025/26 agricultural season, the volume of grain transport by rail (excluding pulses) will exceed 20 million tons, compared to almost 16 million tons in the previous season and 18 million tons on average per year over the past five years.
Pavensky also said that the forecast for wheat harvests in the top ten leading exporting countries in this agricultural year is 677 million tons, which is 46 million tons more than the previous agricultural year. Significant growth is expected in 6 out of 10 countries; in the rest, the harvest will be close to last year’s high levels. Record harvests are predicted in Canada, Argentina, India and Kazakhstan, the second in history in the EU and China, and the third in Australia.
