The main grain reserves of the state intervention fund, the volume of which currently amounts to 3.7 million tons, are stored in the Siberian and Volga federal districts, reports Interfax with reference to the United Grain Company (UGC).
In addition to Siberia and the Volga region, reserves are distributed between the Ural, Central and Southern federal districts.
The main share of stored grain - more than 3.6 million tons - is food wheat. In addition, the fund has reserves of rye and barley. The grain is stored at 147 specialized facilities in 22 regions of the Russian Federation.
Against the backdrop of difficulties faced by farmers with the sale of grain, the Ministry of Agriculture plans to purchase it for the intervention fund this season. The day before, the UGC reported that, on instructions from the Ministry of Agriculture, it had begun selecting grain keepers for these purposes. The selection was announced in 14 regions (Krasnodar and Stavropol Territories, Voronezh, Kursk, Lipetsk, Tambov, Ryazan, Volgograd, Rostov, Orenburg, Penza, Samara, Saratov, Ulyanovsk regions).
At a meeting of the operational headquarters for seasonal work, Minister of Agriculture Oksana Lut confirmed that the volume of upcoming procurement interventions could range from 1 million to 3 million tons of grain.
