The SovEkon company has lowered its forecast for the wheat harvest in Russia in 2026 to 88.3 million tons from the previous 88.9 million tons due to “weak prospects in the south and a reduction in spring wheat plantings,” it said in a statement.
In particular, the forecast for wheat harvest in the Southern and North Caucasus Federal Districts was reduced to 37.1 million tons from 37.4 million tons.
According to the report, the start of harvesting in most key southern regions showed high yields, with the exception of the Krasnodar Territory, where yields were slightly below average. But, according to the head of SovEcon, Andrei Sizov, this figure may improve “as the harvest is harvested from the best fields.”
The company also raised its forecast for the barley harvest to 19.5 million tons from 18.8 million tons, and for corn to 15.1 million tons from 14.6 million tons.
The total harvest of grains and leguminous crops is currently estimated at 135.3 million tons. This figure differs slightly from the previous forecast of 135.2 million tons.
