The decrease in export revenue from the sale of grain acts as a powerful incentive for a technological breakthrough and increased processing within the country. A member of the Federation Council Committee on Agricultural and Food Policy and Environmental Management, Vladimir Pushkarev, drew attention to this, writes Parlamentskaya Gazeta.
In Russia, grain prices began to decline due to an increase in supply due to the appearance of a new harvest and disruptions in logistics in the ports of the Azov Sea, Kommersant reports. Thus, wheat fell in price over the week by 1.3 - 2.8%, barley - by 6.5%. Year-on-year the figures lost 8.6 – 12.6%.
Pushkarev noted that long-term low margins have reduced the financial reserves of manufacturers, and current logistics barriers further constrain exports and affect purchase prices. According to him, in the short term it is important to speed up the search for alternative export routes, but the long-term solution to the problem lies in a different plane.
“The decline in export revenue is a powerful incentive for what we constantly talk about: a technological breakthrough and deepening domestic processing,” the senator emphasized.
He added that Russian farmers are consistently achieving high yields, and now the key task is the technological processing of grain into products that are less susceptible to seasonal price fluctuations.
