Cold weather in the Rostov region has a beneficial effect on the overwintering of winter wheat, since it is under snow with a height of 2 to 12 cm. At the depth of the tillering node, the temperature did not drop below -11℃. The plants have gone through two stages of hardening - and they are not afraid of such negative temperatures, according to the website of the regional government with reference to the Ministry of Agriculture and Food.
In the fall, in the Don region, farmers sowed 2.87 million hectares of winter crops for next year's harvest, exceeding the planned targets by almost 3%.
In the Rostov region, constant monitoring of the condition of winter crops continues. At the moment, plants are in good and satisfactory condition on 98.6% of the areas, and there is no threat to their development.
According to experts, most of the crops are in the “sprouting” and “2-3 leaves” phases, but there are also bushy ones - about 25%. Plants in all phases of development have a good chance of development.
“At the moment, the weather conditions are not critical and should not cause plant death. Of course, the fallen snow will increase the reserves of productive moisture in the soil, but the objective picture will be clear after the onset of the thaw, which is predicted in the near future. The further progress of overwintering will depend on the prevailing weather conditions,” the Don Ministry of Agriculture and Food emphasized.
