The autumn of 2025 in the Republic of Tatarstan was marked by consistently high average daily temperatures. According to official data from the Hydrometeorological Center of Tatarstan, November 2025 set a record for average air temperature, which was as much as 5.4°C above climate norms, reports the region’s Ministry of Agriculture and Food.
Such unusually mild weather caused well-founded concerns among farmers. After all, high temperatures could prevent plants from fully transitioning into the dormant phase, which creates risks of premature consumption of nutrients, such as nitrogen and sugars, accumulated in plant tissues. It is important to note that it is the sugar content that serves as a key indicator of the resistance of winter crops to cold weather conditions.
Specialists of the Tatar branch of the Federal State Budgetary Institution "RosAgrokhimsluzhba" regularly monitor sugar and nitrogen content in the process of comprehensive soil surveys.
Monitoring shows that the sugar content in the tillering nodes of winter grains remains high: as of December 5, 2025, it ranged from 28.4% to 34.1%. Such values indicate a good level of plant preparedness for the winter dormant phase.
And identifying the nitrate nitrogen content in winter crops helps farmers determine the amount of nitrogen fertilizer applied during early spring fertilizing.

Analysis of the available data allows us to conclude that the republic’s winter crops have a good chance of successfully surviving the upcoming winter period, even despite the abnormally warm autumn of 2025. However, due to the lack of snow cover and a sharp drop in air temperature below minus ten degrees in early December, there is an urgent need for regular comprehensive surveys aimed at assessing the current state of winter crops.
