The gross harvest of grain crops in bunker weight in the regions of the “great south” - the Southern and North Caucasus federal districts in 2026 exceeded the 2025 indicators by 20% and amounted to over 44 million tons. This was facilitated by more favorable climatic conditions, he said TASS General Director of the Institute for Agricultural Market Studies (IKAR) Dmitry Rylko.
“The gross harvest of early grain crops in the regions of the “Big South” exceeded last year’s figures. Farmers in the Southern Federal District collected about 34 million tons of grain in bunker weight in 2026, the North Caucasus - 10.6 million tons. In 2025, the gross harvest of early grain crops amounted to 37.3 million tons,” he said.
The general director of ICAR explained that the excess of gross harvest indicators was due to good weather conditions. Last year, drought was recorded in a number of regions of southern Russia.
Earlier, with reference to regional authorities, it was reported that, in particular, farmers of the Krasnodar Territory collected over 11.4 million tons of wheat, barley and peas; the 2026 harvest is almost 2 million tons higher than last year’s figures. The average yield in the region was 58.2 c/ha. Agricultural producers in the Rostov region threshed 13.6 million tons of grain with a yield of 42.6 c/ha, in the Stavropol Territory - 9.3 million tons.
