The construction of a new grain terminal in the Makhachkala sea trade port will be completed ahead of schedule. The first phase will be commissioned already in 2026, and they intend to fully put the terminal into operation by 2028, TASS reports with reference to the General Director of the Makhachkala Sea Trade Port Jamal Aliyev.
"We have a development strategy approved by the government of the Russian Federation, there is a shareholder agreement under which we must carry out certain activities. Among them, the main one is the construction of a grain terminal, which will be the largest among all the countries of the Caspian region. This is 1.5 million tons of grain transshipment per year, the simultaneous storage capacity is about 100 thousand tons. We will commission it ahead of schedule. The first phase will be commissioned next year, and we will already begin transshipping grain through it, and by 2028 we will complete it all other events," Aliyev said.
He also noted that the port is expanding cooperation with Russian Railways. “We are expanding, together with Russian Railways (RZD), the capacity for transshipment through the port by rail. We are building our part, and RZD is expanding the sorting park and the number of tracks on the approach to the port, which will make it possible in a few years to transship a total volume of almost 5 million tons only through the railway and through the port,” the speaker added.
Makhachkala sea trade port is the only ice-free and deepest Russian port in the Caspian Sea.
