Farmers in the northern regions of the Krasnodar Territory, together with scientists, are optimizing the structure of sown areas, Interfax reports with reference to the press service of the regional administration and the acting. Minister of Agriculture and Processing Industry of the region Fyodor Derek.
“In recent years, the Krasnodar Territory, especially the areas of the northern climatic zone, has been faced with difficult, unpredictable weather conditions. In this regard, it is advisable to adjust the crop rotation structure, maintaining a balance of crops. Farmers need recommendations on which crops in these conditions will give a good harvest and be profitable,” Derek’s words are quoted in the message.
He added that optimization of crop rotation should not contradict the provisions of the regional law on ensuring the fertility of agricultural land.
The press service noted that in order to increase the efficiency of agricultural production, farmers are recommended to reduce the area sown with sunflowers and sugar beets, increasing the share of leguminous crops and perennial grasses.
In turn, Marina Trunova, deputy director for scientific work at the All-Russian Research Institute of Oilseed Crops named after V.S. Pustovoit, proposed including rapeseed and flax in the range of promising crops, as well as conducting a preliminary agrochemical examination of the soil to identify the most fertile areas. According to the head of the regional “Agrochemical Service Center” Oleg Podkolzin, this work is already underway and will soon be completed.
Vice-Governor of the region Andrei Korobka at a meeting in January of this year said that the structure of spring sowing is still being formed, in addition to strategic crops - sunflower, corn, beets, soybeans - farmers of the region are recommended to reorient themselves to drought-resistant crops - peas, chickpeas, lentils, mung beans, barley, rapeseed and flax.
