A strong drop in temperature is predicted in the European part of the country from January 31; abnormal frosts with temperatures 7-17 degrees below normal will continue in the regions next week, Interfax reports, citing Roman Vilfand, scientific director of the Hydrometeorological Center of Russia.
“There is a very strong drop in temperature in the European part of Russia,” Vilfand said.
He clarified that between January 31 and the end of next week in the Northwestern Federal District the temperature will be 8-13 degrees below normal. Thus, in the Arkhangelsk region the frost is expected to be up to 36 degrees below zero, in the Nenets Autonomous Okrug up to minus 39, in Komi the temperature will be 10-18 degrees below normal with frosts down to minus 33-41. In the Leningrad region, minimum temperatures will drop below minus 20 degrees, in the Pskov region to minus 25, in the Vologda region to minus 30 degrees.
“Even in the Kaliningrad region there are very strong anomalies, the temperature there is 15-17 degrees below normal and up to minus 18-24 degrees. This rarely happens,” Vilfand said.
In the Central Federal District in the northern part, from January 31 to February 4, temperatures are 7-15 degrees below normal with minimum values of minus 22-27.
“But in the south, this is the Chernozem region, Lipetsk, Tambov, Kursk, Voronezh, Belgorod regions, the temperature is 7-17 degrees below normal, and the minimum values will be in the range of minus 18-23. The most severe drop is predicted at the beginning of the week - on February 2-4 there will be a stronger influx of cold and the minimum temperature values will be minus 24-31,” Vilfand said.
In the Volga Federal District, as the scientific director of the Hydrometeorological Center clarified, the temperature everywhere will be 9-14 degrees below normal, and in the Nizhny Novgorod region it will be 17 degrees below normal with minimum values of minus 28-31.
In the Ulyanovsk, Samara, Penza, and Saratov regions, from February 2 to 4, the minimum temperature will be in the range of minus 25-32.
In the Southern Federal District, as Vilfand clarified, “starting from Monday, the temperature in the Volgograd region is simply breathtaking: on February 2-4, the temperature was 14-15 degrees below normal and up to 25-26 below zero.” In the Rostov region from Monday to Wednesday the temperature will be 12-13 degrees below normal, down to minus 21-23.
“And even in the Krasnodar Territory in the first half of the week the temperature is 8-14 degrees below normal, the minimum values are minus 13-21 degrees. This happens very rarely,” Vilfand added.
Frosty weather will also occur in regions of the Asian part of the country. In the north of the Urals, in the Yamalo-Nenets and Khanty-Mansiysk districts, the temperature will drop to minus 45 degrees.
“But in the southern half of the Urals, in the Sverdlovsk region, in the Tyumen region, both at the end of the month and next week, temperatures are 5-12 degrees below normal and frosts will be down to minus 29-36 degrees,” Vilfand said.
In the south of western Siberia in the Tomsk, Kemerovo, Irkutsk regions and Khakassia in the first half of next week, temperatures are predicted to be 9-13 degrees below normal with frosts down to minus 39-43 degrees.
