National Union of Agricultural Insurers (NAA) introduced a response procedure in connection with the introduction of a state of emergency in the Altai Territory due to unfavorable agrometeorological conditions from September 10.
The state of emergency in the Altai Territory was introduced due to the dry summer, which affected the work of farmers, the press service of the regional governor reported on September 8. This decision was made at a meeting of the commission for the prevention and elimination of emergencies, held on September 7, chaired by the governor of the region, Viktor Tomenko. The state of emergency in the region will come into force on September 10.
According to NSA, in the Altai Territory 623 thousand hectares of crops are insured for the 2026 harvest. Of these, 504 thousand hectares are under the emergency insurance program, 112 thousand hectares are under the “multi-risk” program. In the structure of the insured sowing area, the main part falls on grain crops - 428 thousand hectares, in addition, 175 thousand hectares are insured for oilseeds. Insurance agreements were also concluded for crops of legumes, industrial and fodder crops.
“The fact that the emergency was declared after harvesting more than half of the grain in the region requires special attention. This may create difficulties in assessing losses under the crop protection program in case of emergency, if previously insured farmers were not in contact with insurance companies,” noted NSA President Korney Bizhdov.
He recommended that agricultural producers who have entered into crop insurance contracts immediately notify the insurer of the occurrence of an event that has signs of an insured event and agree on the procedure for further actions to fix the damage.
According to operational data provided by the regional Ministry of Agriculture on September 3, the region’s farmers threshed 2.2 million tons of grain. Grain and leguminous crops in the region are threshed on 52% of the occupied areas.
